Using Aftershave for Men

It's always a blast to rise every morning and shuffle into the bathroom. We all know what comes next. Yes sir, it's the bout with the blade. Peer up into that mirror and wipe that groggy look off your face, because it's time to break out the saving cream. If possible, you may want to try this routine in the shower. The heat from the water will really soften up those whiskers and make for a nice smooth shave. This is the practice of many men these days. Oh, and don't forget to use a quality shaving product that offers a heavy lubricant. You need that barrier between your mug and the blade. I highly recommend Jack Black's Beard Lube. This is an ideal shaving product for any man. Ah, now you've done the deed. Doesn't that feel better? You're all set for work now. Uhh, hold on. There's actually one more step. You don't want to forget your soothing aftershave for men.

Remember when the kid slapped on the aftershave for men in "Home Alone?" This is a classic scene. He screams after he does it because the aftershave burns. I can't recall which one he used, but I do know why it burns. It's loaded with alcohol. This is not a good thing. They may have thought alcohol was ideal back in the day, since it works like a disinfectant, but it's no longer recommended in aftershave for men. Think about what you've just done. You dragged a razor blade all over your face, hence scraping off that top layer of skin. Now your delicate neck and chin need relief. Your face needs to be soothed, calmed, and refreshed. This is not accomplished with alcohol. The contemporary man requires an emollient, rich aftershave for men. These are so simple to come by now days. In fact, take your pick from the massive plethora of lotions, balms, and gels.

Should you shoot for the drug store stuff, designer products, or somewhere in between? Well, let me put it like this; I've done the drugstore stuff and the only decent aftershave for men I've encountered is Nivea. Then there are the designer aftershaves. These are typically great. They sooth and heal, but also provide a wonderful scent. Of course they run 40-50 bucks. Finally there is the in-between. Baxter of California makes an outstanding aftershave balm that does it all for about 15 dollars. This one is at the top of my list.

Men’s Perfume

Choosing Men's Perfume Made Easy

Men enjoy wearing perfumes as much as women do and that is the reason you will find a large variety available. However, men use fragrances for a different reason then just to enhance their natural body odor and that is as a disinfectant after shaving in order to close the pores and heal any eventual cuts.

Men's perfume is classified according to the amount of alcohol it contains. For example, an aftershave or cologne contains the highest amount of alcohol, which can be approximately 75% in some cases. It is generally applied directly on the face after shaving. Eau de toilette usually contains 50% alcohol and Eau de perfume 75%. Usually perfume houses don't create 100% perfume for men but there are some exceptions.

It is probably not advisable to purchase a man's perfume for someone you don't know much about because it is likely that he will never use it should the fragrance not suit his style or personality. If you know the man even slightly, you will be able to guide yourself to purchasing a suitable men's perfume in no time. Here are some considerations:

Purchasing Men's Perfume Guidelines

The first thing to consider when shopping for men's perfume is the type of fragrance he uses everyday. You can ask him discretely or guess by the fragrance tones from the perfume he already wears. The next important thing to consider is whether you are purchasing an everyday perfume or one specific to a time of the year or occasion. In winter, for example, men and women will wear stronger perfumes and in summer, lighter, fresher types. Last but not least, it would help to know if the person for whom you are purchasing the fragrance is allergic to any ingredient so you can avoid products that contain the irritant. Try and purchase a small men's perfume of 50ml or 30ml when not sure what to buy or a gift set where there are a few other choices available as well such as, face moisturizes and gels so he can use them in case the perfume was not suitable.

Additional Help

If you are purchasing a men's perfume for your husband or partner you can usually choose what you like, as men just like women are happy when their partner enjoys the fragrance that they are wearing provided it is not too different to what they are used to wearing. Guide yourself by considering his personality and present job and always try the fragrance that you are looking to purchase on a piece of paper before deciding.
