A Collectible Perfume Bottle Can Make Or Break A Fragrance
You may think it’s what is inside the bottle of perfume that really matters but for a gift as sensual and as romantic as perfume, having a collectible bottle makes a big difference. Many fragrances seem very similar if you were to test them blindly. A little more citrus in one and a little more sandalwood in the other is unnoticeable by the untrained nose. However, what makes one bottle of perfume collectible compared to the rest is the way it is designed and decorated. The perfume bottle itself makes all the difference to how it looks on a dressing table or on the counter between a double marble bowl vanity and whether or not enthusiasts would be willing to buy the scent just because of its looks.
Many classic perfumes have equally classic bottles which have become just as much a trademark as the fragrance itself. Some have even become antiques. Just pouring the most expensive perfume into an ordinary bottle is unlikely to be enough to sell it. The opposite may not always be true. An average perfume may sell if the bottle is collectible. Of course there may not be repeat purchases if the perfume doesn’t deliver on its promise and it may not go down as a classic but at least it will entice the first time buyer. A very plain or unappealing perfume bottle will not even be given that chance.
Although exact amounts vary from designer to designer a large chunk of the budget when launching a perfume goes into bottle design, colors, type face and of course the name of the perfume. A trend that began with the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Coco Chanel has caught on so much that teeny bopper stars also have their own brand of perfume today.
Collectible Perfume Bottles
Jean Paul Gaultier bottles of perfume both for men and women are always one of the first that come to mind when one thinks of collectibles. The silhouette of a man and woman in deep aqua-blue and pale dusty pink respectively was something very different from the square and cylindrical bottles common to many perfumes. Further the tin type packaging that houses that attractive perfume bottle just makes it even better.
The classic, clean lines of the Chanel no. 5 bottle with the legendary Chanel logo in black has always been a permanent feature on many dressers. It is nothing fancy but it symbolizes timelessness.
Although not very upscale, the Hot and Cold perfume from the United Colors of Benetton also has a very cute bottle with faucets as the top of the fragrance. It was very apt to go with an easily identifiable object that plays on the name of the perfume excellently and appeals to a younger crowd.
Go into any department store and you will be spoilt for choice for future collectible perfume bottles. And, even if it's not your hobby, you will find yourself delighted by the designs that are available.
